Norwegian Adventure

Exploring Norway

Have you ever wondered how the country of the Vikings, Munch and Haaland looks like? Whether you are drawn by the call of the wild, the richness of Norwegian tradition, or simply a desire to try something new, “Norwegian Adventure” offers a journey you will never forget!

Embark on the ultimate experience with “Norwegian Adventure” – a course designed for international students eager to explore the culture, history, language and nature of Norway. Maybe you have ancestors from our diverse northern country, and want to experience it yourself? Or maybe you are just interested in visiting and learning about Norway?

A highlight of this program is the Norwegian language course. Learning the language is essential for students to fully engage with the culture and everyday life in Norway. The course is designed to be beginner-friendly, but it will also help students develop practical language skills they can use in their daily interactions. Learning Norwegian will make your experience even more rewarding.

In addition to language lessons, you will have the chance to taste a wide variety of traditional Norwegian foods. From traditional stews like “lapskaus” to the ever-popular waffles served with brown cheese, this course offers an authentic food experience.

Your adventure brings you way beyond the classroom – discover the breathtaking landscapes of Norway by hiking in the mountains and staying overnight in cozy “DNT cabins”. These are operated by the Norwegian Trekking Association and are scattered across the country’s landscapes. These stays allow you to experience “friluftsliv”, a term deeply rooted in Norwegian culture that refers to a love of outdoor life.

Our school is perfectly located in the Bømlo archipelago – one of the most beautiful parts of coastal Norway. This means we have nature at our doorstep, allowing outdoor life to be part of everyday life at campus. Our own boathouse is the perfect base for activities at sea, whether it is fishing, kayaking, rowing or a refreshing swim. The school is also surrounded by woods, and a few kilometres away we can hike the Siggjo mountain (474 m), a well-known landmark for seafarers though thousands of years.

Finally, the program includes a special trip along the western coast of Norway. You will explore some of Norway’s dramatic fjords and mountains, while learning about the region’s history and its significance in shaping the Norwegian identity. The combination of cultural education, outdoor adventures and lifelong international friendships, ensures that you will end the year with lasting memories and a deep connection to Norway.

During this course you will:

  • Gain knowledge of the Norwegian way of life, including its history, cuisine, and outdoor culture
  • Learn about the Norwegian society, traditions and language
  • Get a Norwegian language course to help you engage in everyday interactions
  • Gain practical outdoor life experience by staying in DNT cabins, hiking and being a part of the Norwegian way of living.
  • Develop a broader understanding of how the Norwegian culture fits into the global context.
